Working in Digital: Why PMG’s Early Careers Program Was the Perfect Opportunity for Me
Camila Ordonez has written this article. More details coming soon.
After graduating from college with degrees in economics and political science, I was eager to find a role where I could better understand human behavior, and PMG’s Graduate Leadership Program (GLP) turned out to be the perfect fit — in more ways than one.
I joined PMG via the Client and Media track of the program in June 2021 alongside more than 70 fellow graduates (internally known as “GLPers”) who hailed from some of the leading schools around the world.
From day one, GLPers are learning from client strategists and executive leaders from across the company, with rotational training sessions covering search marketing, SEO, programmatic, paid social, and more. Soft skills training and more technical sessions on cross-functional project management, media forecasting, and managing media campaigns were also taught throughout the program. By learning from a variety of experts about the intricacies of each media channel, GLPers are taught the skills they need to become well-rounded marketing practitioners.
As I was applying to the program, I met several program alums who described the training experience as similar to graduate school, and it’s easy to see why! Throughout the first few months of GLP, I attended lectures and forums with guest speakers, resolved case studies, and presented solutions to real client programs. The program validated my thoughts on how true learning doesn’t end — but rather starts — after graduation. The problems we were solving were tangible, with real-world applications. It showed me how it takes more than classroom-based learning to work with teammates and develop proposals for organizations to adapt to the current state of the market.
Participating in the PMG Graduate Leadership Program helped me discover my marketing ambitions while also incorporating my passion for continuous learning.
One of the best-kept secrets about the GLP is the sense of community that’s developed throughout the program. As a GLPer, you’re attending training lectures and meetings with the entire class, then later participating in small group sessions with others on your track to really learn the ropes of digital marketing.
GLPers are also paired with executive mentors and join a fun, dynamic network of program alumni, who become your coworkers after the rotational training section of the program wraps. As training comes to a close, graduates are matched with a role and team best suited to their skill set and career ambitions, with opportunities ranging from programmatic and search marketing, to data analytics and technology innovation. I took a role in client strategy for one of PMG’s retail clients, working across brand and performance marketing, and have loved learning how full-funnel strategies can impact a business’ bottom line.
I consider PMG’s Graduate Leadership Program as the perfect opportunity for any recent graduate to kick off their career by working in a fast-paced environment that champions your professional growth, empowers you to learn new skills, all while working alongside some incredible people and with many of the most influential brands in the world.
